Hand-Painted Lens Orders
Photo Instructions
Clear, accurate photographs are an important part of the hand-painted prosthetic lens process. Follow the instructions below before submitting your order.
These photo requirements apply to hand-painted prosthetic lens orders. They are submitted together with the completed Hand Paint Order Form.
Two Photos Are Required
Photo 1 — Both Eyes Together
Take one clear, straight-on photograph showing both eyes together. Frame the image from approximately the nose to the forehead so both eyes can be compared in the same lighting.
Photo 2 — Good / Reference Eye
Take one clear close-up photograph of the good or reference eye. This image is used to evaluate iris color, pattern, and other visual details for the hand-painted lens.
How to Take the Photos
Position the Patient Straight On
Position the camera directly in front of the patient and approximately at eye level. Avoid taking the photo from noticeably above, below, or from the side.
Use Clear, Normal Lighting
Use even, natural-looking lighting that shows the true color of the iris clearly. Avoid lighting that creates heavy shadows, glare, or color distortion.
Keep Both Eyes Clearly Visible
For the comparison photo, make sure both eyes are open, unobstructed, and clearly visible.
Keep the Image Sharp
Make sure the eyes are in focus and that iris color and pattern can be seen clearly. A modern smartphone camera is sufficient when used carefully.
The better the reference photograph, the better Adventure in Colors can evaluate the color and pattern of the reference eye.
Good Photo vs. Poor Photo
Straight-on angle, both eyes clearly visible, even lighting, sharp focus, and natural color.
Poor angle, uneven lighting, obstructed eyes, distracting background, or insufficient detail can make accurate evaluation difficult.
Please Do Not Submit
- Slit-lamp photographs
- Polaroid photographs
- Photos with strong flash glare
- Blurry or out-of-focus images
- Photos where hair, glasses, shadows, or other objects block the eyes
- Heavily filtered or edited images
- Images with strong color-altering lighting
Submitting Your Photos
Submit the required photographs together with the completed Hand Paint Order Form. Orders cannot begin until Adventure in Colors has received a completed order form and usable reference photography.
Photos may be submitted by email or mail with the order materials.
